What is a mentor?
A mentor is a coach, sponsor, guide, advocate & role model. A mentor is a friend, advisor, teacher
& resource person. A mentor provides instructional support, promotes greater involvement in
school activities, encourages responsible behavior, fosters a positive self-image, helps protégés
develop post-high school plans & expands awareness of career possibilities & the realities of the
world-of work.
What does it involve?
- As a mentor you will assist the program coordinator in facilitating small groups of young people aged between 8 and 15 years old.
- You will support the mentees through a series of lessons, activities & challenges designed to develop their life-skills and aide them in their academic journey.
- The Esperanza afterschool mentorship program is set up in a way that makes it easy for mentors to get involved.
- It only requires one hour per week commitment.
- Esperanza staff will be present in the mentoring meeting providing guidance & support to each mentor throughout all the programming.
- Mentors are allowed to choose from two different sites and two different days a week.
